A group of meerkats is called gangs, mobs, or clans. The meerkats are very social animals. They live in groups with up to 30 other meerkats(Image 1). In the group each individual has their own specific job. For example, one meerkat might have the job of teaching the newborns how to survive in the wild, or one might have the job of babysitting the little ones while the adults go hunting, or one might even have the job of being the hunter, and etc. Meerkats mainly prey on insects and are immune to venom which allows them to consume scorpions and snakes without being poisoned.
The average number of offspring(pups) a mom can have is three. She is able to have pups at age one. The pups stay underground with their mother for two to three weeks.
